“OpenAI Jobs Platform: OpenAI’s bid to transform the job market with artificial intelligence”
OpenAI launches a powerful job platform designed to connect companies and employees, a service that would put the company in direct competition with LinkedIn. The product is called OpenAI Jobs PlatformThe company expects to launch the service in mid-2026, an OpenAI spokesperson told TechCrunch.
The CEO of OpenAI Applications, Fiji SimoSimo announced the new project in a blog post on Thursday, noting that the company “will use AI to help find the perfect matches between what businesses need and what workers can offer.” Simo said the service will offer a dedicated pathway for small businesses and local governments to access top AI talent.
OpenAI is interested in expanding into several new markets beyond its core consumer offering, ChatGPT. At a recent dinner with journalists, OpenAI's CEO, Sam altmanHe said that Simo would oversee several applications beyond the chatbot. This would apparently include the OpenAI Jobs Platform and potentially other products the company is working on, such as a browser and a social media app.

It is worth noting that OpenAI's recruitment platform could put the company in direct competition with LinkedIn, which was co-founded by Reid HoffmanLinkedIn, one of OpenAI's earliest investors, is also owned by Microsoft, OpenAI's largest financial backer.
Over the past year, LinkedIn has worked to incorporate AI features into its platform in order to help match candidates with companies.
OpenAI also states that it will begin offering certifications for people with different levels of “AI fluency” through its OpenAI Academyan online program that the company launched last year. An OpenAI spokesperson says the company plans to launch a pilot of the OpenAI Certifications at the end of 2025.
Many technology executives have expressed concern that AI will disrupt numerous traditional jobs. The CEO of Anthropic, Dario AmodeiSimo has said that AI could eliminate up to 50% of entry-level office jobs by 2030. In his blog post, Simo acknowledged that risk, saying that OpenAI cannot prevent such disruption. However, he noted that the company can do its part by helping people become fluent in AI and connecting them with companies that need those skills.
The creator of ChatGPT claims he is working with Walmart, one of the world's largest private employers, in its certification program that aims to certify 10 million Americans by 2030.
OpenAI says it is launching these programs as part of its commitment to the White House initiative to expand AI literacy. Altman and other Big Tech executives will gather Thursday with the president Donald Trump at the White House to discuss AI.
